The best leaders inspire those around them before anyone makes a choice to follow.
The best leaders inspire others with a vision or dream of something more valuable than what they will lose in pursuit of that vision or dream.
The best leaders don’t need to coerce, mandate, or threaten to gain compliance. People choose to follow because they can see that the value of the promised benefits outweighs the costs of attaining them.
Of course, you must always tell the truth about what benefits can be attained. This is how the best leaders earn trust. The best leaders never motivate compliance by using fear.
Jesus is the best leader. He inspired trust through words and actions motivated by selfless love for others. He cast out all fear. We can do the same wherever we lead—at home, at work, and in our communities.
